How we work

From the big picture to the last packet

Sound strategy only matters when it works in practice. Every Metis engagement connects the thinking with the doing, and leaves your team stronger than it found them.

One discipline, every engagement

Whether the work is a short assessment or a multi-site migration, it moves through the same four phases. The depth changes with the engagement. The discipline does not.

  • Understand

We start with your business, your environment, and what is getting in the way: interviews, evidence, and a shared definition of success.

    You get

    • Scope and success criteria
    • Current-state baseline
  • Architect

We define a clear path forward with the trade-offs and decisions laid out, so choices are made deliberately rather than by default.

    You get

    • Options and a recommendation
    • Design and plan
  • Implement

We turn the design into reality with deliberate change planning, validation at every checkpoint, and rollback ready if it is needed.

    You get

    • Runbooks and test results
    • A stable, documented network
  • Enable

We leave your team with the documentation and the understanding to own what comes next, so the outcome outlasts the engagement.

    You get

    • As-built documentation
    • Working sessions and handover

Three ways to engage

Every engagement is scoped around a decision you need to make or a change you need to deliver. The shape of the work follows from that.

Fixed scope, fixed fee

Assessment

A defined set of questions, a defined environment, and a report with evidence-based findings and a prioritized plan. The most common starting point.

Best for

  • A first engagement with Metis
  • Due diligence before a refresh or migration
  • An independent view for leadership
Network Assessment

Defined outcome, fixed fee per milestone

Project

Design, implementation, or migration work scoped around a specific outcome, with milestones and acceptance criteria agreed up front.

Best for

  • Refreshes, new sites, and migrations
  • Segmentation and SD-WAN programs
  • Senior capacity for a defined period
Architecture & Design

Ongoing, flat monthly fee

Advisory retainer

A senior architect available on an agreed monthly basis for design authority, reviews, vendor conversations, planning, and hands-on help within the retained capacity. Ongoing operational responsibilities can be scoped into it; a NOC cannot.

Best for

  • Teams that want senior design capacity on call
  • Continuity after a project or assessment
  • Regular independent input on decisions
Advisory Retainer

Troubleshooting is the one service billed by the day, because the scope of a live problem cannot be fixed before it is understood. Every proposal states scope, deliverables, and price before work starts.

What you can expect

Four commitments that hold across every engagement, whatever its size.

  • Independent advice

No hardware or software resale, no referral fees, no carrier commissions, and no vendor partner tiers. When a product is the right answer, we say so and explain why.

  • Senior people throughout

The engineer who scopes the work leads it. There is no hand-off to a less experienced bench once the agreement is signed.

  • Everything written down

Findings, designs, and decisions are documented as we go, in language your leadership and your engineers can both use.

  • Your team keeps the network

We do not run a NOC, sell monitoring, or provide first-line support, and we will not bid to take over operations. Your team, or your MSP, keeps running the network. Where a retainer carries ongoing responsibilities, they are agreed with you, not bid for.

The practical details

The questions every buyer asks before the first call, answered before you have to ask them.

  • Remote first, onsite when it matters

Assessments, designs, and reviews run remotely with read-only access. Wireless surveys, cutover windows, and anything best understood in the room bring us onsite.

  • How pricing works

Assessments, strategies, and designs are fixed fee against an agreed scope. Implementation is fixed fee per milestone. The retainer is a flat monthly fee. Troubleshooting is billed by the day.

  • Access and confidentiality

A mutual NDA before we see a configuration, a diagram, or a credential. Read-only accounts and exported configurations by default; write access only in an agreed change window under your change process.

  • What we do not do

No NOC, no 24/7 monitoring, no first-line support, and no hardware. Ongoing operational responsibilities can be scoped into an advisory retainer, agreed with you rather than sold as a package. If you need round-the-clock operations, we will help you choose a provider and hold them to the design.

Built to work alongside your team, your MSP, or your VAR

Metis is not a replacement for the people who run your network, in-house or outsourced. We bring senior capacity and independent judgment to the decisions and changes that need it, and because we sell no hardware and no operations, we can sit on your side of the table with the people who do.

  • An independent review of their proposal. Your MSP or VAR has proposed a refresh, a migration, or a renewal. We review the design and the quote against your requirements and say what we would change.
  • Design authority over a network they operate. Your MSP runs the network day to day. We hold the design standards and review changes against them, so the architecture stays yours.
  • A second opinion before a renewal. A contract is coming up. We assess what you are getting, what you are paying for, and what to ask for next time.

Engineers on your team are involved in reviews, walkthroughs, and change windows, so that the knowledge stays when the engagement ends.

About Metis

Start with a 30-minute scoping call.

Tell us where you’re headed and what’s in the way. A senior engineer will call to understand your situation, not to pitch.

  1. We read your message and reply to arrange the call at a time that suits you.
  2. A senior engineer joins the call to understand your environment and what you are trying to achieve.
  3. If there is a fit, you receive a written proposal with scope, deliverables, and price. If there is not, we say so and point you in a better direction.
